How To Fix A Loose Door Knob? Household chores are a part of live. Keeping up with the responsibilities of a household is not an easy feat to achieve. However, there are no short cuts to accomplish the work you need to do in case you have something faulty in your house. As a home maker it falls on your shoulder to do the work and do it properly. Maintaining your own house is a very difficult job with something or the other in constant need of repair or attention. There might be plumbing problems, electricity problems, a loose door knob etc that will always keep you up with some work or the other. Here are some ways on how you can fix a loose door knob:
- If you have an old doorknob that has come loose for a certain period of time, then most probably the handle connecting the two knobs, that is the one on the inside and the other on the outside, has come loose which has threads on it. You will find a small set screw on the handle that holds the handle in place. All you have to do is thread the thing right back in. You will find a round metal plate called the rose plate that attaches to the door. This is where you will need to thread in the knob and then reset the screw. Make sure not to tighten the thing too much as it might cause problem when you would go to open and close the door.
- Open your door so much that you can reach over the other end and hold the doorknob. Since the doorknob is loose it can skittle a bit lower which might cause a problem after tightening it up since the orientation would go wrong. So hold the other doorknob in position and tighten the end on your side with a screwdriver. Make sure not to overtighten the screw holding the knobs in position as it might strip the screws and might cause problems while opening and closing the door.
- Sometimes if your doorknob is held by a set screw, then you might lose one somehow or the other which might cause your knob to loosen up and sometimes fall off. Look for the screw and if you do not find it then make sure you get the same screws with which your doorknob is attached.
